Sokka Editorial

The first thing I want to talk about in regards to Sokka is *deep breath* shipping. I’m just going to delve into this for a little bit, for most of what’s in here, just go to my shipping page and view all the ships involving Sokka. Far as I can see, there are two different possibilities as far as Sokka’s possible relationships go. Realistic possibilities, that is, I can’t see him and Azula getting together, sorry. The first, and in all probability, most likely candidate for Sokka would be Suki. (LOL, as I type this, I have the Serpent’s Pass episode playing on my laptop. “I’ll grab a tree branch every now and again, do a few chin ups…” Ya, Sokka and Suki is most likely. Amazing timing) Throughout the course of Serpent’s Pass, he’s overprotective of her, tries to show off for her, pushes her out of the way of a bunch of falling rocks, etc. And Suki obviously likes him in return, she made out with him. It’s hard to tell whether or not she’s still alive though, at this point. Hopefully, she was merely defeated, left unconscious or something, and then she could join the BoomerAANG Squad and give them a hand. This would seem to make the most sense, as Sokka would probably lose it if Suki died, and the good guys need all the help they can get and more at this point.

The second possibility would be Yue. This is a bit of a stretch, seeing as how she’s dead, but technically, she is a spirit now, and spirit’s are ultra-mega-super-like-omg-powerful, so who knows what she can do? Ressurection would seem a bit much, but when she turned into the spirit of the moon, her body sorta faded away Yoda style, who knows what happened with that? So in summary, if she came back, then she might be an even more likely person then Suki to end up with Sokka, but she’s probably not coming back, so the arguement’s basically irrelavant.

Moving past shipping, on my Final Battle page, I mention the possibility of Teo’s dad and Sokka coming up with some ingenious plan together. Here I’ll go into details:

In the final battle, it’s pretty safe to assume that the Fire Nation will break out a fresh array of amazing doomsday machines that make you wonder why they don’t just pull out automatic rifles and go at it with them. Anyways, Sokka and Teo’s dad, or perhaps Sokka alone would be instrumental in bringing the machines down. Sokka is “The Plan Guy” after all, and chances are the design of said doomsday machines came originally from Teo’s dad. One thing that I have noticed, however, is that there is a consistency in the type of machines the Fire Nation uses, probably because they all come from Teo’s dad. They’re all powered by heat in one form or another, whether it be the blimp, the drill, or the weird tanks they use (we haven’t actually seen how the tanks are powered yet. We know the counterbalancing system has “something to do with water”, but we don’t know what powers them. However, there are firebenders in them, and Teo’s dad designed them, so it’s safe to assume it’s something to do with heat). Moving on, it’s relatively apparent that the Fire Nation isn’t completely stupid, and so they’ll have learned from their most recent defeat at Ba Sing Se. If “The BoomerAANG squad” hadn’t been able to get inside of the drill, they never would have been able to take it down. So, if previously mentioned doomsday machine actually exists, odds are that whatever way into it will be harder to access then the way into the drill. So it would have to be taken down from the outside, which seemed almost impossible to do with the drill. My only thought on this is that the most classic way of taking down a giant machine, that being baiting it into a trap, has not been seen yet, and I’d love to see Aang baiting a giant machine to try and kill him, or something along those lines.

Looking at things after the Book 2 finale, Sokka’s role appears not to have changed much. Perhaps, while facing insurmountable odds without any backup, or facing a machine designed especially to kill The BoomerAANG Squad, he’ll come up with an ingenius plan to defeat it. Maybe, maybe not. Leave your ideas in the comments please! THE END.

  1. What about Ty Lee? I think there’s a bit of chemistry between the two, though I agree the Suki thing is more likely.

All the Fire Nation devices are (not surprisingly) fire-powered, so if sokka’s plan of attack-on-the-eclipse works (which actually would be lame to watch:) ) than the superweapon won’t work for a while. We do also need to consider when the date of the commet is in relation to the eclipse…

Sokka strikes me as solidly supporting, he can’t die, can’t bend, and provides much needed comedy in otherwise serious situations. His ideas are also a good way to battle technology in its manifold forms, right?

I love the guy, truth be told-

  2. First, Sokka flat out said to her “I’m involved with Suki”, and he wouldn’t be interested in anyone from the Fire Nation. Second, just because the Firebenders MIGHT not be able to bend on the day of the eclipse, they can still generate heat. Also, we’ve been told that the comet is indeed coming after the eclipse, that was in Chapter 12: The Library.

  3. I highly dought that Ty Lokka will happen. I support 3 Sokka ships. Sukka, asuming Suki isn’t dead. Yuokka, which won’t happen, Sokka can’t be with a spirit. I still like Yuokka though. And the third is Tokka, because it seams that Toph has a crush on Sokka.(lol, she kissed Suki thinking it was Sokka)

  4. Er, I can’t see Tokka. Toph could’ve just been exhilerated that she was saved, and it could have nothing to do with love. Besides, Sokka’s fifteen (possibly sixteen by now) and Toph is twelve. Three or four year age difference. That’s really the only reson why i don’t like Kataang, because of the two-year age difference (and difference in maturity level.)

  5. Zutara supporters keep citing the difference in maturity as the reason Kataang won’t happen, but what difference in maturity? Throughout the whole first book, I could see where you’re coming from, but what difference in maturity is there now? Aang’s really grown up, become serious, focused on his goal, hard working, and when was the last time he really goofed off? There isn’t a difference in maturity level anymore.

But this isn’t a shipping board. Let’s move back onto Sokka.

  6. Yes Aang has matured…….BUT HE’S STILL NOT MATURE ENOUGH!!!!!

The way he acts n’ all that is just you know, toddlerish (I’m the most mature person some pplz have ever met) AT times, not all the time, At times- i should know. Though he has matured alot know but still. Unlike yoda, yoda listens and can obay the rules of the missions and his jedi laws thingy.

Aang might as well put on a darthvader mask if he’ll go with katara instead of listening to the guru, the guru is right you know. And soko wouldn’t mind as much as Zuko which makes Zutara all the more interesting. people say that the hero always gets the girl or their adorable together coz their both MENT TO BE- none of thats true (not including the last one) and its gettn’ so dull know. He never tells/gets to tell her and thats been for months now…seriosly it’s like a program people started complaining about and even lost veiwers coz for months(the epis were in seasons too)it was the same story, over and over. In the end she said she (lilian) liked him but then betrayed him fo a nother and ran of
if you wanna see little Aang hurt then go on and let him tell her.

the bottom line is if he dosn’t let go of her he’ll be crushed by her or hurt her in the Avatar state, i know girls like her (my friends 13 over) they like to move on quik as lightning when it comes to Guys till the find the right one. She first saw him an he acted like a imiture, lost, needs help kid. She leed him like a mother would. First impressions always stick and never go away (unless its change from bad to good which isn’t Aangs case), sure you notice changes but you’ll see the person as the them the day you meet them. (in her case a matured SON) so, well…t here.

That boring film made me see things this way and in the light of Zutara- at least she’ll be safe from the A/S with Zuko.

Don’t hate me, hate the film!! Feel free to debate.

  7. I hate you Wippy!!!….no sorry i hate the film!!!

  8. “The way he acts n’ all that is just you know, toddlerish”

That amused me. Find me one example, in recent episodes, that he’s done that. One example. I dare you.

  9. You guess….oh well, and what do you mean toddlerish? Childish yeah, but todlerish, give me a break! First you make me stand up to Kataangs twice, now Aang, my least favorite character. Hes twelve. Let him be a kid before he’s 13 will you? I stand up for children, especially when they have the kind of responsibility that Aang has, that no child should have. And where’s that example James wants??

  10. What? Say again please. If you mean Katara’s still a kid, you’re wrong. Shes a teenager, just like Zuko. Sure Aang’s matured but not that much. Girls are 2 years older in maturity, boys 2 years younger meaning Zuko would almost be on the same year as katara. Its been proven by scientists.

But Aang would be I would say about 9 in season 1 but now about 10. Katara would be about 16, Zuko about 16 since he was already more mature than Aang. If you ment something else though let me know or debate.

  11. James, I don’t need to prove anything any more. Dare’s been done, Luna S did it for me. (hahahaha)

  12. I like Sokka because he’s very funny. And I want to see Suki again, and I know that she’s not dead, and I don’t like Tokka and I don’t think Toph likes it either.

  13. Referring to Luna S’s comment (here)

A couple things I object to:
First, what science says that? I don’t recall ever hearing anything of that sort. And second, you can’t just throw that around. Sure, a lot of teens aren’t safe drivers, but just because that’s true, doesn’t mean that every teen you see is an unsafe driver. Blindly applying science to stuff like that is called stereotyping, and it isn’t a good thing. Finally, even if that science is true (and again, applying it to people is stereotyping, what Luna said is just a general trend), it most certainly doesn’t apply to Aang. When I asked for an example, I meant a specific one that referenced something that has actually happened in the show. Just because lots of teens get into car crashes doesn’t mean every teen you see has been in a car crash. So my dare still stands. Find me one example, not a broad scientific stereotype.

Also, you say that you’d place Aang around 10? And Zuko is more mature than Aang? I strongly object to that. First, I would place Aang around 16 to 18. He “works his arrow off”, is always focused on the goal, is completely selfless, and does whatever he can to help others. Zuko, on the other hand, I would place at around 10. He’s totally selfish, cares for no one but himself, (apparently, he doesn’t care about Iroh anymore. Not enough to stop his treachery), and doesn’t think ahead at all.

What evidence do you have that points to Aang being in any way immature anymore? He’s grown up practically into an adult since the beginning of the series.

  14. Sorry, I don’t understand

  15. In regards to the Zuko/Aang maturity debate.

Aang is younger than Zuko, but infinitely more mature. Like James said, he’s completely selfless and focused on his goal, but he’s retained his sense of fun, and he’ll always stop to help people in need on the way to his goal.

Zuko, as has been pointed out, is selfish, and rash. I guess you could say he’s completely focused on his goal (to regain his honor), but to the point where it has consumed him so that his humanity is dwindling. I liked Zuko in season two, and I was fully expecting him to reform, but he betrayed the one person in the world who cared about him. He’s consumed by what he wants to the point where others don’t matter anymore.

And finally, Aang and Zuko both have suffered tremendous losses. Zuko’s mother is gone, his father doesn’t love him, his sister is evil. He basically has no family.

Aang, however, has lost nearly everyone he has ever known and cared for. No one from his previous life, except for Bumi, is still alive.

The difference is that Zuko cannot move on, and Aang has. Aang is grateful for the friends he’s made along the way and is basically an emotionally healthy person. Zuko, on the other hand, let his losses destroy him. And no one can even say that no one but Uncle was there for him, because that’s untrue. After Zuko rescued Aang as the Blue Spirit, Aang attempted to befriend him. Aang rescued Zuko again from the blizzard at the North Pole. There was Song who took them in and healed Iroh, and Zuko stole their ostrich horse. After Azula injured Iroh, Aang and the gang offered to help, but he told them to leave him alone. There was Jin, who he rejected. And finally, he betrayed Iroh, and turned on Katara, who reached out to him.

    Sorry for the long comment.

  16. Yeah, I like the way you think. Your theory has let me see things the other way. Thanks for everything!

  17. The debate is facinating, but…

Aang vs. Zuko maturity edition on the Sokka page?

    Hm.

Perhaps we could continue this on another page? Such as Aang’s or Zuko’s? ;)
Please, do carry on though. I admire the intelligence and input of the writers here.

  18. Why is Azula’s fire blue I’ve Really always wanted to know that

  19. I think its a sort of persomality thing, as different benders have different styles.
    Kataang forever,
    -SilentSpeculator

  20. i just think she uses the lighning more than fire .becouse she didnt have lightning in that epasode whare thayshow how zukos mom died. hi my name is hannah

  21. sokka is my favrote charicter,he rocks!

  22. Sokka is awesome.

  23. Blue fire is real. It is the hottest kind of fire there is. Azul means blue in spanish, so AZULa is like blue. Therefore she has blue fire.

  24. Contunuing on the Aang vs. Zuko maturity debate (I know it would be better to continue this on another page but then it would not make any sense), I agree heartily with James. Zuko is selfish and arrogant, and Aang is abnormaly selfless and optimistic. This optimism, along with the way he talks, makes him seem childish at times. But in battle he is much more focused and mature than Zuko.
On a more Sokka-ish note, I think that he is a much deeper and more mature character than the comic-relief clown that everyone thinks he is. In a way, he reminds me a lot of Ron Weasley. Unapreciated, funny, and always there when you need him. The episode “Sokka’s Master” really helps to show this.
    Sokka and Suki FOREVER!!!
I think Azula’s fire is blue because it is actually lightning(the really powerfull firebending that only Iroh and Azula can do). This is the big thing that has always put Zuko in Azula’s shadow: she is more powerful than him.

  25. ummm…guys… zukos losses were mabe not as big as aangs, but at least aang has great memories. all zuko has are his wierd flashbacks of his mom. even those are mostly ruined by the fact that azula is in them. zuko’s losses are still fresh, i mean, he can’t think of his dad without thinking of how much he hates him. btw, aang was being immature when he decided that he did not wanna learn firebending. may i remind u all that the only reason that he started learnin was cause he was convinced by zuko to . yeh zuko was immature in the begginin, but he became just as (if not more) mature as aang in the space of not that many episodes wheras aang took a whole book. zuko was not as mature as aang, but he showed promise of being uber-mature if he tried (which he now has).

  26. Very true.
