Zuko Editorial
One interesting thing that I’ve noted about Zuko’s character through the course of Book 2 has been his “demotion”, so to speak, from bad-guy-in-chief, Azula now filling that role. His transformation into who he is now, that is, almost a good guy, came about, I think, both as a result of Iroh showing him the right path, and also, his sense of desperation that he will never succeed as a Fire Nation warrior anyways. In The Blue Spirit, Zuko almost gives up when Zhao seemed on the brink of capturing the Avatar. Now, with Azula taking over that job, and with her resources, allies, and own personal power, I think that one of the reason’s we’ve seen Zuko’s transformation happen is because of his belief that even if he did continue to pursue the Avatar, he wouldn’t be able to get him before Azula. Another reason, to give credit to him, though, is just his own personal belief system, which was no doubt helped along by his mother. He is not, at his core, as “evil” as Azula seems to be, or as we must assume Ozai is. Whether this is a result of his mother teaching him, Iroh teaching him, the beliefs Zuko was born with, or a combination of the three, it is reasonably clear, short of a major turn around, that Zuko is headed for the good side.
Well, sadly, a major turn around occured. Zuko seems permanently on the bad side now, but we thought he was permanently on the good side just two chapters ago. I could still see his loyalty to Iroh turning him back at the last moment, but he’ll never be trusted by anyone, except maybe Iroh, ever again. The only possibility of Zuko returning to the good side is if he actually talked with Iroh real quick when Iroh was captured, and they decided that he should act as if he was supporting Azula even though he really wasn’t, so he could be a spy. I could see two situations arising from this: First, Iroh tells the BoomerAANG Squad that Zuko is just being a spy, and they’re all happy. Second, Iroh dies, Zuko confronts the gang, and tells them himself. This, I think, if Zuko really is good, is more likely, because it would create a nice emotional scene and would bring Zuko’s honor and honesty into the equation. However, I find Zuko being a spy extremely unlikely, for three reasons. First, Iroh and Zuko would have only had half a minute or less to decide on that, and they couldn’t have pre planned it, they had no idea what was going to happen. Second, the look on Zuko’s face when he attacked Aang. He looked like his heart was 100% in what he was doing, and I’m sure the animators were told to do that deliberately. Finally, it would be downright stupid for Zuko to help Azula take over Ba Sing Se even if he was going to spy on her. Think about the exchange logically: In exchange for information (and who would he tell this information? what would its use be?), the Fire Nation gets Ba Sing Se, any hopes of an invasion disappear, Earth Kingdom falls. It’s a terrible and stupid exchange. The reason people believe this is simply because they’re looking for any way Zutara could still happen. GET OVER IT PEOPLE.
However, given this, it still remains uncertain what he’ll do. He could join “The BoomerAANG Squad”, just work for the good guys, or any number of other possibilities. I personally don’t like the idea of him joining Aang & co, for a couple of reasons. First, good guy or not, what has kept the group strong, and helped them overcome almost everything thrown at them, has been their caring for each other, and dedication both to their goal and to their friends. It’s rather difficult just to jump into that, especially when you’ve been hunting the group in question by order of their enemies for the better part of a year. Second, no matter how many followers it has, I still don’t ship Zutara (more on that in a bit), and the main reason that a large percentage of the Avatar fanbase is rooting for Zuko to join the gang (at least what I think the main reason is) is because people think it will set the stage for Zutara. Shipping alone, I don’t think, is strong enough grounds to justify a long time enemy of “The BoomerAANG Squad” buddying up with them, and after all the moments Aang and Katara have had, and all the time they’ve spent fighting on the same side, I can’t see Katara running off with Zuko. (This was typed directly before the book 2 finale. For a more updated version, go here)
To be fair though, there are also reasons why it might, or even “should” happen. First, all the way back in the finale of Book 1, Aang saved Zuko from dying at the north pole, and at that time, I thought that was a possible precursor, or foreshadowing for Zuko either returning the favor somehow, or at least joining the gang. One could debate the possibility that by freeing Aapa, Zuko effectively (though unknowingly) saved the group, but I thoght it would be more direct and upfront, mirroring what happened in the Book 1 finale. And, if that does happen, I could see Zuko gaining the trust of the group through his actions, and thereby joining them. Second, many people belive that Zuko will end up teaching Aang firebending. Though this seems unlikely, and Iroh seems a far better candidate to teach Aang, for many reasons, Zuko could definitely still teach Aang a lot about firebending, if something were to happen to Iroh, or if he got captured. Finally, if Aang finds out that Zuko freed Aapa, when he could have kidnapped him, Aang being Aang, he’ll proabably think that he owes Zuko something, or at least should trust him after that.
With the revelations of the finale behind us, I think the odds of Zuko joining up with Aang are less than zero, for reasons discussed here. The possibility of Zuko having a redemption is still there, albeit slim. However, I could still see the possibility of Zuko saving Aang, still being allied with the Fire Nation, but saving Aang because he feels he owes Aang a debt. His ultimate mission is to regain his honor, and what honor is there in killing a person who once saved you? Basically, to summarize, I think Zuko’s now gone to far to really go back, and he may save Aang’s life indirectly, or do it discreetly, without even Aang knowing that Zuko saved his life somehow. But regardless of whether he does this or not, I think there’s no turning back now.
Moving on to *gulp* shipping. Having addressed Zutara a couple paragraphs ago, I’ll delve into other aspects of Zuko shipping. I don’t ship characters based on who I want to be together, rather, who I think will end of together in the canon series. And, at the moment, I would say that Zuko and Jin are far more likely than any other pairing with Zuko, if for no reason other than she’s the only one he’s ever actually even involved himself with romantically. A Zuko/Mei pairing does seem possible, though I would call it an outside chance, seeing as how Mei is pretty evil herself, and Zuko isn’t that much anymore. Granted, Mei seemed to have a bit of a thing for him in flashbacks, and even seems to have a little thing now (her blush at the end of Return to Omashu), but with developments that have occured since then, this would fall into the category of “unlikely”. And, with the developments of the finale of Book 2, this falls into the category of “ludicrous”.
Next up, Zuko’s role in the invasion of the Fire Nation, if there is one. He, along with Iroh, would be the most likely person to both be willing to help the Earth Kingdom, and know the terrain, if indeed he doesn’t have a map. Actually, it would seem strange to me if he didn’t have a map of his own home. Also, just as there are secret passages into Ba Sing Se, secret passages into the ferry system that runs to Ba Sing Se, it stands to reason that the Fire Nation also has secret passages somewhere, whether or not they use them anymore. If so, who better to know where they are then the prince of the fire nation, and the once next in line to be Fire Lord? (View the more updated, post-finale version of this, here)
Finally, Zuko’s role in the final battle. Sad to say, I don’t think it will be that prominent, even as of the finale of book 2. Unless between now and then he gets a heck of a lot more powerful, because if he doesn’t, Aang, Katara, and Toph, I think, would all be able to defeat him. What’s gotten him by so far has been a mixture of cunning, luck, and determination. Great, helpful, and powerful tools these may be, but they still won’t save you when you’re facing the avatar, a master waterbender, or the “best earthbender in the world”, all intent on killing you. If you think Zuko will have a bigger role than I think he will, leave your suggestions in the comments!
Thank you!

I think that Zuko will help the Aang Gang in the final battle. I support the theory that Zuko and Iroh will join them. So maybe Zuko will help Aang get to where ever Ozai is.

I personally dont think zuko and katara will happen, since katara and aang seems to be pretty close.(not that I’m a kataang fan nor a zutara fan). Although the fact that zuko might end up teaching aang firebending is quite likely.
just my opinion^.^

I appreciate your opinion ^.^ I think, personally, that it will be Iroh, but if something happens to him, Zuko definitely would be next in line.

In the previews I see that Aang and Katara have to split up for some reason. I’m sorry I’ve been unable to watch the most recent episode (really really sorry?) but the way I see it is that Aang has to do something alone, and Katara for whatever reason is left alone with Zuko and comes to understand him. I think that Zuko is destined to fight and detain if not defeat Azula BECAUSE he isn’t a powerful bender (well, compared to her)… I think that He will fight Azula while Aang fights Ozai. This ties up the two most evil characters, works out Zuko’s internal value issues with his sisters, and means that Aang won’t have to fight Azula and Ozai at the same time. Plus, if the Comet does come during the last battle (why have a comet otherwise?) all four of them will be far stronger fire benders, which will make things cool looking.
I’m still banking on Aang dying in the end. I think Azula will too. Zuko, I think will either be prince or king of the Fire Nation after he destroys his own kin.

Well, that’s pretty much impossible given the finale, Zuko turned out to be evil, his scar wasn’t healed, he sided with Azula, Iroh got captured, Azula took over Ba Sing Se, and Aang was forced to flee the city with Sokka, Katara, Toph, and the Earth King.
Comment made by James on December 3, 2006 at 4:57 pm
You seem so vehemently against Zuko. It almost reminds me of Anti-Snapes from the Harry Potter realm, where they swear up and down he will not redeem himself.
However, all interesting complex characters with tragic pasts will always redeem themselves. It is a theme, and it is a vital theme. They are what add vital complexities to the story. Darth Vader redeemed himself, Boromir redeemed himself, even Wolfwood redeemed himself.
Just because you see him operating one way doesn’t mean he will stay that way. When Katara confronted him, Zuko was quick to defend that he ‘did change’. And, whether you are a Katara x Zuko shipper or a Katara x Aang shipper, you have to admit there was a touching moment between them when they both realized that they had lost something very important to them (Parents, in their case). Katara set the regret in his heart, Zuko is going to repair prior mistakes.
There’s also an important theme of elements working together. Earth(Toph), Water(Katara), and Air(Aang). However, where’s Fire? Zuko’s went through a lot of changes, it wouldn’t surprise me if his saving characteristics don’t shine through the third book and he attains his rightful place on the team.
He’s not a villain. He’s just severely misguided.
Comment made by Alyx on December 24, 2006 at 3:40 am
A very good point, but who would ever trust him again? The BoomerAANG Squad wouldn’t, the Earth King wouldn’t, even his own uncle might not. He may redeem himself (though I don’t think so), but no one will trust him for a long time.
Comment made by James on December 24, 2006 at 3:55 pm
Again, it is a pattern of redemption. There is good in Zuko, as evidence by his compassion towards his own comrades in the Fire Nation (though he is belittled and mocked for it by his father and sister).
And while he did side with his sister, it wasn’t until a great deal of hesitation. He is dealing with too many inner conflicts to remain evil, if you can even call this relapse an act of ‘evil’.
To be trusted, he may have to make a massive sacrifice, such as using himself as a shield/sacrifice in an attack against his present foes. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this in the future. It is very formulaic, but I doubt the developement team would simply throw Zuko away for ‘evil’ and disenchant his fanbase. Seifer from FF8 was more selfish then this guy, and even he managed to make a turn around.
Comment made by Alyx on December 26, 2006 at 10:10 pm
I don’t think that Zuko’s still good because I ship Zutara. I think he’s still good because there’s no way he’d go through a season of metamorphasis, of KNOWING that his sister’s a compulsive lying freak, of his uncle being his major stability, and starting to forge his own path JUST to go back the old way in two seconds when his sister tosses him a bargain. I really thought that Iroh gave up too quickly when he was captured, and Zuko’s character has matured since the first season. Is it really impossible for him to have something up his sleeve, or still be rooting for the good side?
One thing about Avatar is that everything they make to seem to happen always turns out opposite. So, who says this isnt another one of those occasions?
And one quick note: Much as I love Zutara, even I have to admit its quite dead-ish. lol. But its NOT impossible. if the creators wanted it to happen they could make it. They have the power, even if Kataang is 99.9% likely. lol
Thats basically it.
Comment made by Kelsey on December 30, 2006 at 4:53 pm
For Zuko to fully reform, he’s going to have to see with his own eyes an act of supreme cruelty performed by Ozai. I put this theory up on another board, but I’m going to put it here too, and elaborate on it, for those of you who think there’s no way Zuko will come back. I think there’s ONE way, but it’s not a warm and fuzzy way.
Iroh is considered a traitor to the Fire Nation. He’s also been taken captive. The penalty for treason, basically everywhere, is death.
The Fire Nation seems to have bizarre, hard, cruel ideas of when someone comes of age. Ozai favors Azula because she’s been evil all her life. I think Ozai will decree that Iroh must be publicly executed, and he will force Zuko either to watch or deliver the killing blow to a bound, helpless, and badly burnt Iroh. Iroh will beg Zuko with his last words to help the Avatar, and Zuko will be forever haunted by the image of his dying Uncle. He won’t be able to deliver the killing blow, so Ozai will, enraged, kill Iroh and possibly burn Zuko’s other eye. Zuko will again be banished, he’ll be tormented by his poor decisions, and he’ll decide to, finally, choose good.
I’m not sure how he’ll convince Aang and the gang to trust him, but I think he’ll most likely follow them for a few episodes, and when they’re in extreme danger, he’ll save them somehow. They’ll naturally be suspicious for a long time, but eventually he’ll win them over and teach Aang Firebending, what little he knows.
Comment made by Marjie on December 31, 2006 at 12:28 pm
There’s only one whole in that theory: Nick is NEVER going to show anything like that. It’s still a Y7 rated show, and there’s no way on earth, without an immediate ratings change to TV14, that Nick would even consider showing something like that.
Great theory though
Comment made by James on January 1, 2007 at 1:12 pm
Yeah, you’re probably right about that. I just thought maybe they could do momentary flashbacks, like have Zuko wandering through some woods with two burnt eyes, and show two-second flashes. They wouldn’t have to be gory or upsetting, just so we could understand what happened. I just think they brought Zuko too close to redemption to just throw away all his development as a character, but at the same time, I semi-agree with you that he’s gone too far to turn back. The only way I can see him returning to the good side is with something very drastic.
Comment made by Marjie on January 2, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I had someone email me through the feedback form saying: “I don’t think that Zuko has really gone bad…I believe that Uncle Iroh and Zuko devised this plan so that Zuko could infiltrate the fire nation and take them down from within”. However, my thoughts are, that’s an awful lot to give up just to infiltrate the Fire Nation. I don’t think Iroh would allow Aang to almost be killed, Ba Sing Se to fall in to Azula’s hands, and the Da Li to become loyal to the Fire Nation just for Zuko to infiltrate them. It’s WAY to much to give up.
Comment made by James on January 2, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Well I agree with you completely there. I’m not saying he’s still good. I just think my theory, or something like it, is the only way for him to BECOME good.
Comment made by Marjie on January 2, 2007 at 2:26 pm
It would take something incredibly drastic, enormous, and freakishly huge for the good guys to even consider trusting him again. Hmmmm….perhaps he will somehow stop the Fire Nation from learning about the invasion plans?
Comment made by James on January 2, 2007 at 2:29 pm
I think, during the final battle or some important fight, the Gang will be trapped and need cover, and he’ll do the “Go, I’ll hold them off” thing and get injured/killed. Yes, it sounds quite corny, lol!
Comment made by SilentSpeculator on January 3, 2007 at 4:52 am
It would be a cool but stupid twist to the show if they trusted him…I don’t really know. Neat flash back idea.
Comment made by Luna s on January 5, 2007 at 5:56 am
Do you think Zuko’s role will be significantly bigger or smaller in book 3?
Comment made by James on January 5, 2007 at 9:48 pm
Considering what a complicated character he is, the fact that he’s technically heir to the throne of the Fire Nation, has been a major part of the story so far, and has a rather large fanbase, it’s most likely that his part will be just as important, if not more than, it has been all along.
Comment made by Marjie on January 6, 2007 at 8:38 am
Personally, I still believe Zuko is good at heart. Judging by the look on his face at the end of the season finale, he regrets what he has done and still is not sure if he really will be accepted by Ozai. I don’t think Ozai wants anything to do with him and if Zuko shows up in the Fire Nation (if he ever does) Ozai will put him in prison. That’s it.
I am a Zutara fan, as well. I believe there is still a chance for it to happen. Zuko will probably realize that helping Azula to catch Aang is not what he wants to do. He will probably free Iroh (if Iroh isn’t killed) and flee Ba Sing Se. If they catch up with the Gaang, Aang and all of them will probably be happy to see Iroh (and maybe Iroh will teach Aang firebending), but may never trust Zuko again. If Zuko is genuinly sorry about all his actions and redeems himself, then maybe they will trust him in the long run. Again, this is just what I believe will happen.
Comment made by Becky on February 3, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Well, Zuko is far past redemption. He isn’t trusted by the bad guys, nor is he trusted by the good guys. (Zutara died in the season finale, sorry everyone).
So Zuko’s only option left… is to sacrifice himself for the side on which his heart truly belongs. If he honestly wants to die for Azula, he will. But far more likely is the fact that he will be like Aang’s lifeline. When Aang is in peril, Zuko will come out of nowhere, and save the day, possibly losing his life in the process. I believe that is what it will take for the good guys to ever trust him again.
Comment made by medianoche on March 14, 2007 at 5:58 pm
I think that Aang’s firebending teacher will be Iroh. Zuko isn’t powerful enough. I think Zuko will eventually turn good though.
Comment made by Yuki on March 22, 2007 at 12:02 pm
Well isn’t this depressing. Living in Canada and not having access to satellite, I have to put up with the late YTV broadcastings of Avatar (not that I mind that much, better than nothing) and have yet to see the season finale. Having nothing better to do, I decided to read some spoilers. Sigh. It’s depressing beyond words what they’ve done with Zuko, and confusing. The creators spent the whole season ‘bringing him over to the light side’ (for lack of a better phrase) and now they made him evil again. I guess little kids just don’t like thinking of Zuko as a good guy…
And whoever said Zutara was alive? It’s been Kataang (spl?) since the start, fan girls.
Comment made by maggie on April 11, 2007 at 3:18 pm
You seriously need to update this.
I’m sure you’re probably occupied, but this guide is waaaay behind the times. It doesn’t describe the Zuko of today at all.
Ah, well…I’m sure you’ll get around to it eventually. It’s fine.

Random first post-I ship Zutara- on that now.
in the season 2 finale- im not saying they were about to kiss or anything. It looked like Katara was actually about to heal Zuko ( and gain his trustand respect by letting someone touch his face- remember the girl who helped Iroh when he ate the white jade tea- he stopped her) when Aang busted in. It was like she was afraid to be seen with Zuko by Aang. Just a observance. After the battle, Zuko looked really conflicted- just saying. Now for spectulation- In the Day of Black Sun airing- at the end, Zuko goes to find the Avatar. What if he goes and he and Iroh teach Aang firebending- and oh- all the sudden Katara starts to look very pretty. And the kiss during Day of Black Sun- Katara was MOTHERLY not- - anything else. And she looked reluctant, if not surprised or sad. Aang never saw them in the caverns- she might feel like she’s unfaithful to Aang for fraternizing with the “enemy”. Just a thought.
Someone, say something.
I mean it- sorry i didnt know i had another post-computer problem

Ummm….. People?
The Western Air Temple has already aired. I was on Wikipedia, and for relationships, it said Katara told Zuko if he touched Aang, she’d kill him. Sadly, and inevitably, Zutara is over. I have proof. Katara’s gonna marry a powerful bender. Then Sokka says,” Sometimes I forget what a powerful bender that kid is.”
You dont just throw in someone saying something like that.
It would have to be a huge event, like Zuko saving her life or something, ( falling off one of those precipecies at the air temples?)
and I’m still not sure she would trust him.
Comment made by moonfish on December 16, 2007 at 5:12 pm
I know for a fact that Zuko will join the boomerAANG squad. He will teach Aang firebending. I say this because what happedend to Iroh? After he brakes out. Why did Zuko follow them? Katara won’t be too happy about Zuko I’m sure (I’m a small fan of zutara, but she won’t be happy. Katara will kill zuko if he so much as touches him. My question is what HAPPENED TO IROH

Comment made by toph/katara_master on December 28, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Maybe Iroh will somehow find the BommerAANG Squad and teach Aang the deeper aspects of Firebending. The cruel humor. As usual, Zuko is bumped off. Now I really dont see Zutara anywhere in the near future unless Aang dies. I dont want that to happen either. If Aang does die, Zutara could happen. Because the next Avatar is going to be Water Tribe, theres a good chance that her child could be the Avatar.
Comment made by moonfish on December 30, 2007 at 6:22 am
I’ve always shipped Zutara but now I’m more confident in it than ever! Here is why. In the Western Air Temple episode Zuko is trying to prove himself and show that he has changed to the BoomerAANG Squad. Everyone seems ok with him except Katara. So now I think that Zuko will go out of his way to please Katara and show her that he is good. Once Katara sees this she will totally fall for him. (Well, who wouldn’t with his awesome hair!) Because of this Zutara is definetly a possibliity now.

Ahh Zutara, a classic case of good gentle beauty being paired with and taming the firey beast……………
funny people, but this ain’t disny.(sigh)
but still what girl wouldn’t defy the very laws of the natural world to become paort of the animated demensionfor a character as well drawn as Prince Zuko? ……………..I’m sorry was that pushing the creepy side?

ZUTARA IS DEAD! How many times do Katara and Aang need to look at each other sideways, blush at each other, or kiss before it becomes obvious??
I don’t want to sound completly contradictory, but I realy don’t think that two characters destined to fall in love would be threatening to kill each other. Fights maybe, but death threats???
Also, at the end of chapter 11: the western air temple, when Katara is threatening Zuko, she says: “If you make one slip up, one false move, one backwards step that makes me think that you might hurt MY AANG…” I mean, seriously!
I also think that Toph is too rough and also too young to fall for anyone, especially Aang.
All Zutara fans should see the two newest episodes for a nasty suprise…

Zutara is possible but so is Kataang. Nobody should give up hope about anything. Personaly, I think both would be cool but Zutara would do horrible things to Aang and Mai(Deaths? Insanity? Heartbreak at the very least!). Katara would make an awesome firelady.

zutara isnt happening how many times do i have to say this. zuko loves mai. there togather if you actullay have the dvd book3 volume 3 you’ll see that mai and zuko truly love eachother and no one can get between them. they have been through so much togather.

wat do you mean they have been through so much together? i mean sure she had a crush on him when they were like 10 but other than that, formost of the series, mai has been helping azula track him down and capture him! their relationship has pretty much developed in like 3 episodes…
Comment made by ZukoForFirelord on June 1, 2008 at 9:09 pm
those of you against Zutara, how far into the show have you seen? MAJOR SPOILER; Zuko and Mai are over. Yeah, she saves them all in the end of the Boiling Rock thing, but she practically says herself she doesn’t want anything more to do with him. Also, has anyone seen the trailer from the series finally? Mai’s only appearance in that is from the Boiling Rock. There could be some unforseen way that maybe Zuko and Mai get back together. But anything that is at all forseeable doesn’t involve the two in a relationship. Another thing in the trailer for the end of Avatar; Katara looks shocked - not in a good way - when Aang kisses her the next time, and, in the next clip, she launches herself into Zuko’s arms over something. They’re at least going to end up good friends. Also, I was reading a story on fanfiction; I’m not sure if this is true or not, but aparently, the writer’s friend’s father works at nick and he knows Mike and Brian, and that Zutara IS going to happen in the end. Again, I’m not sure about that, but I’m hoping. Yes, I ship Zutara, and for those of you who don’t like that, don’t complain to me. I respect your ships. I just don’t see much chance for them. Especially Tokka. Suki is back, and Suki is who Sokka loves. As of the trailer for the finale, it doesn’t look like Aang’s going to end up with anyone. Maybe Katara, but remember about the thing where he kissed her, and she JUMPED AWAY. Think of that before any of you say a ship is dead. Of course, I could be all wrong, and maybe it will be Kataang, Maiko, and God-knows what other ships. It doesn’t really matter to me, except that in all the fanart and stories I’ve read, Zuko and Katara look sooooo cute together. I just wan the series to end well; with Ozai and Azula dead, Uncle free, and Zuko on the throne and all the good-guys (or the main characters, at least) happy.

Hhahahaha.
SPOILER ALERT
Well to tell the truth, I went to avatarchapters.org and I know what happens.
BEEEG time.
Zuko does realize what he’s doing is wrong and that the side he thought was ‘good’ was bad. He realized he didn’t want honor, but his father’s love and now that he has it he isn’t happy. So he confronts his father and goes to find Aang and the gang. After alot of convincing and Zuko saving them from SPARKY SPARKY BOOM [[aka Combustion man]] They finally trust him enough to let him teach Aang firebending. However, since Zuko’s rage is gone, he lost the source of his fire bending so him and Aang travel to the Sun people, where they find the last two dragons. these dragons teach them the way of the true firebending, not the rage filled one the fire nation teaches.

I’ll admit it, I root for the “Zutara” ship. Although you prove an excellent point on the ‘couple’ being unlikely, opposing characters are popular in shows and sometimes end up falling for each other. And also, maybe they’ll get together because Katara might realize that maybe she should forgive and forget. I mean, I know it is hard to forgive someone whose burnt your village but, it’s all in the past and anger only breeds more anger. Right? And also to the person who said that it was obvious that Aang and Katara would be together because of all the side glances and blushing and kissing…that’s not always true. Teenage romance is confusing and impuslive, it could change at the drop of hat (is that the saying…..?) Yay Zuko and Katara!!

i am such a avatar fan
and about aanG, katara, zuko and mai anything can happen i mean i’v seen book 3 not all only upto chapter 15 and mai does love zuko and so does zuko but it can be a possibility that zuko and katara can be a cuople and fall in love there soo oppasite but u can c they go well to gather and it would be pretty cool if that happened. for aang and mai they might find someone else like aang and toph weird but it can happen mai who knows but i’m not saying there’s anything wrong with kataang or mia and zuko but it would be a cool love story if zuko and katara aang and toph got to gather but not so quickly ofcourse aang would be hurt but toph will be there to help him maybe and from there the story might become more interesting and funny but if it doesn’t happen oh well but katara and zuko u can c a love story
of a different style for them happening for them but i don’t want avatar to get rude and dumb AVATAR ROCKS

hey also what does ship mean like
: “zutura ship” can anyone tell me and i hope theres a book 4 for avatar that would be cool
Comment made by cas on July 9, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Cas,
Ship is short for relationship. Zutara is the combination of two names: Zuko and Katara. The Zutara ship is the belief that Zuko and Katara will hook up by the end of the series. Other examples would be Kataang (Katara + Aang) and Maiko (Mai + Zuko). A shipper is someone who supports a specific ship, eg, a Zutara shipper wants Zuko and Katara to hook up.
Hope that clears things up.

I’m all for the Maiko coupling if that’s the case. Though in the beginning, I did support Zutara (even if only a little) simply because I thought Aang was a little too immature to handle someone like Katara. But now, it makes more sense to pair off Katara with Aang and Zuko with Mai.
It’s more natural. Especially with the story as it is now. Zuko gets extremely jealous when he sees Mai with another man (remember “The Beach” episode). He tries to please her yet all his efforts were in vain. Still they did stay together until he turned against the Fire Nation. Anyone could have seen that he was obviously upset about leaving her in “Day of Black Sun”. If he didn’t care, would he have left a note apologizing? No. He would have gone without that. She was the only one he said goodbye to.

WARNING: Extreme Zutara shipper on the loose!!! (that’ll be me ofcourse xDD)
Listen you guys, unless you havent noticed yes, Kataang and Maiko won… ooh, wow, whatever.
It doesn’t mean much to me. Yeah, the creators had us thinking it was Zutara in the last few epi. but to me it still is. Look, I’m sorry for all you Kataang and Maiko shippers, saying that Maiko and Kataang have more history, bleh, bleh. But have you ever come to think about the Kataang pairing, how very awkward it would be (and is for that matter?)
Aang doesn’t really care for Katara, not in a bf-gf way anyway. What has he ever done for Katara, because watching the series, except for SOME parts in the beginning, he didn’t really do anything for her. He’s immature, and sometimes could be a brat (no offense, i still love Aangy, but he’s just a little kid.) Katara is TWO YEARS older than him, and plus, she had to grow up quickly after her mothers death, which mentally makes her even older than what she really is. When Aang came into her life, she thought of him as her little brother, one she had to protect, because he resembled her lost childhood, but then the creators somehow forced this relationship into happening, and the only reason Kataang had to be was because not only is this a Nick show, but because they forced it to be this way. It shouldn’t have been, because Katara and Aang really have no chemistry, except for some forced upon chemistry like the fact that Aang kissed her a couple of times (without her consent).
The reason Kataang came to be was because Katara was confused. She obviously felt bad Aang liked her, and she forced herself into liking him back. She was scared to have his feelings hurt, because of the fact she was so overprotective of him, and she would do anything to make him happy.
And for Maiko shippers out there, I would give you this (but only this). Compared to Kataang, Maiko is actually more believable because of the fact that they’ve known eachother sice childhood and everyone thought they were going to be together. Cute. But at the same time, it’s almost like Kataang, yet less forced upon. To some point, Mai liked Zuko and Zuko didn’t like her back. The reason they came to be was because everyone would tease them into being together, to a point where Zuko began to get develop a crush for her, and that’s where everything began. They went through thick and thin and were always there for eachother, so it’s deffinately a believable pairing. But then, why do I ship for Zutara?
Because Zutara is the only natural-occuring (or could’ve been, if the series were right) couple out there. They share a similar past, and even if they were considered enemies, they still had chemistry. People even considered them bf-gf! Katara offered to heal Zuko’s scar, Zuko apologized to Katara for her mother’s lost, and he even said it didn’t mattered when she offended him. He was never aggressive with her, and always treated her gently. He came through for her even when they were considered enemies, and I think that the reason they couldn’t be was because it was a forbidden love. If Zuko wouldn’t have been Aang’s enemy, he and Katara would’ve hitted off immediately, because both of them shared more similarities as enemies than Maiko and Kataang ever did as a couple. Both Zuko and Katara have the same way of forgiving; they get really pissed to the point of hating that person, until they realized they were wrong and do forgive. They were practically meant for eachother, plus opposites attract!!
Wow… this was… long xDD hehe, didn’t seeem this long when i was writing it, lol xDD But to all you Zutara shippers out there, don’t loose hope. Zutara was, and will always be, the true pairing in Avatar, even if the creators refused to “make” it happened, like they did with the rest!!!

thank you. lolz i personally will never give up on zutara, especially as the live-action movie is still coming. the creators said that “it will be a pretty faithful adaptation of the series, with a few twists and turns”. i will continue to believe for the next two years untill tho movie comes out that zutara not only can happen in the movie but WILL happen in the movie! ZUTARA FOREVER!
